چکیده

The electrochemistry of pyrazine, quinoxaline, phenazine, and solvated electrons in near-critical and supercritical ammonia was investigated by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry and compared to that in liquid ammonia at -40 OC. The reductions of pyrazine, quinoxaline, and phenazine at room temperature, and in the supercritical fluid (SCF), occur reversibly or quasi-reversibly and result in stable products (anion radicals or dianions) on the voltammetric time scale. The electrochemistry of nitrobenzene was investigated in the presence of water, and reactions of the dianion at higher temperature, similar to those previously reported at -40 OC, were observed. The diffusion coefficient of the four aromatics increased by an order of magnitude between -40 OC and +150 OC, in agreement with the Stokes-Einstein relationship over the temperature range studied. Solvated electrons were electrochemically generated in the supercritical fluid and found to be stable on the voltammetric time scale. The thermodynamics of electrode reactions in the SCF is discussed, and the apparatus for performing electrochemistry in the SCF is described.

p-Si, and n-Ti02 in Liquid Ammonia

The behavior of several nand p-type semiconductors in liquid ammonia with 0.1 M KI as supporting electrolyte was investigated. The flat-band potentials were estimated from Schottky-Mott plots, and the current-potential curves with several redox couples (e.g., benzophenone, naphthalene, nitrobenzene) in the dark and under illumination were obtained. Photoinjection of solvated electrons at p-GaAs...

Quantifying solvated electrons' delocalization.

Delocalized, solvated electrons are a topic of much recent interest. We apply the electron delocalization range EDR(r;u) (J. Chem. Phys., 2014, 141, 144104) to quantify the extent to which a solvated electron at point r in a calculated wavefunction delocalizes over distance u. Calculations on electrons in one-dimensional model cavities illustrate fundamental properties of the EDR. Mean-field ca...

Semiconductor electrodes. 20. Photogeneration of solvated electrons on p-type gallium arsenide electrodes in liquid ammonia

The electrochemical behavior of p-type GaAs electrodes in liquid ammonia, in the dark and under illumination, has been investigated. Results show that it is possible to photogenerate solvated electrons (es-) from the semiconductor a t an underpotential of about 0.9 V compared to Pt, indicating an extremely negative flatband potential for p-GaAs in N H j compared to that found in other solvent s...

Preparation and performance analysis of γ-Al2O3 supported Cu-Ru bimetallic catalysts for the selective Wet Air Oxidation of Aqueous Ammonia to Nitrogen.

Series of Copper Ruthenium (Cu-Ru) bimetallic catalysts supported on γ-Al2O3 with different metal loading are prepared and investigated for catalytic wet air oxidation of ammonia to nitrogen. The ammonia decomposition activity was studied at three different temperatures i.e. 150oC, 200oC, and 230 oC and it is found that catalytic activity increases with the increase in temperature along with th...
